Saturday
Race One Racing began in light winds which were pretty switchy. Ricky and Ryan Robinson lead for almost the entire race, only to be deposed by Trevor Gibb on the last lap. Race Two Again very light winds, a tricky beat put the Robinson's in front again by 100m, but unlike in the first race, they managed to hold the lead till the end and won convincingly. Race Three A building breeze set the stage for an interesting race which was won by Robert Dann and James McWha with a narrow margin. Sunday Race Four The days' racing began with winds gusting up to 25 knots. Some classes decided not to sail for fear of breaking things. True to form, the Mirrors were all on the water ready to race. Hectic racing ensued with Robert and James capsizing and Brennan and Ryan Robinson breaking their rudder. Despite the capsize, Robert and James managed to win the race. Race Five The strong winds held up and the race was lead at various stages by almost everyone – Trevor Gibb, Mark Buckle and Robert and James. After a capsize, Robert and James broke their rudder and retired, while Mark Buckle from Natal, suffered a broken center board and also had to retire. Trevor Gibb ended up swimming as well and joined the growing group of retirees. Paul Haglich held things together, sailing with Sean van Rensburg and won the final race in fine style. It was a superb sailing weekend ideally suited to the Mirrors and a memorable weekend was had by all. The results by, very narrow margins were: 1. Robert Dann and James McWha 2. Paul Haglich and crew 3. Trevor Gibb and crew 4. Team Robinsons 5. Mark Buckle and crew 6. Tony Lane and Hettie 7. Francois and Alex Smit 8. Ronnie Downs and crew |
