Sieraj and Taariq Jacobs set the tone. No one in the fleet was able to take any race away from these two champions. They would have won every single race was it not for the OCS in the last race.

The MIRROR CLASS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP was held at Wriggleswade Dam near Stutterheim from 27 December 2001 to 2 January 2002. 14 Races were sailed in all kinds of weather. Even a drifter was sailed for the Gauteng guys.

27 Mirrors entered and had a great deal of fun sailing in the waters "around the corner" with the Laser fleet of 7. With Sieraj and Taariq claiming first place all the way through, others had to fight for second and third. Waldo Zevenster & Katherine Taunten, Ashton Sampson & Nicolas Baigrie and Diether Zevenster with Louise Collier had a close tussle for second and third place. Ashton looked set for second after five races with Diether third and Waldo fourth. Hard, skillful racing however followed bringing these three closer by the race. The final placings were only decided in the last race of the regatta.

Craig Latigan was the only one other than Sieraj who got a first place by winning the last race after both Sieraj and Ashton scored OCS during the I flag start.
